The State of Florida welcomes millions of visitors to our state by land, sea, rail and air. A transportation system that can welcome visitors to our state and provide the mobility to move them around safely and efficiently - along with our residents - is imperative. This mobility includes crossing highway and rail bridges that are built to standard and then regularly inspected. Seaports and airports should meet proper safety requirements. Florida is also committed to planning for the future and to conserving energy by promoting the use of public transportation.
Transportation also contains a level of service as well. Taxpayers have a right to expect construction and repair projects to be completed on time and on budget as often as possible. The process of obtaining a license to drive or a license for their vehicle should be a transaction, not an ordeal.
Florida is meeting its safety requirement to inspect every publicly-owned bridge within 24 months and taking action on those in need of repair or replacement.
The number of highway lane miles added and miles under construction was slightly lower than the previous year, while the number of miles maintained remained at previous levels. The infusion of increased federal funding will lead to the addition of new roads and the widening of roads in the future.
The number of vehicles using the Florida Turnpike system continues to increase, while delay due to congestion fell for the first time this decade.
Nearly 86 percent of construction projects are completed on time and nearly 80 percent are completed within budget.
Waiting times for driver's licenses services continues to decrease.
